La Laiterie

DSC_0050.JPG

Situated at the far end of a Charentaise longhouse and barn, you’ll find the former milking parlour, ‘La Laiterie’, which now offers spacious ground floor accommodation for four.

Bedrooms: 2

Sleeps: 2

Nestled in the farmhouse courtyard and set apart from the other two gîtes, this wheelchair friendly bolt-hole with its extra wide doors, has a touch of elegance infused with the characteristic French country charm of ‘Le Clos des Jardins’.

The enormous craftsman made french doors of the south facing façade creates a wonderfully light and airy interior, whilst the vine covered pergola offers welcome shade in the heat of the day. Step into the cool interior with its refreshing milk coloured walls and faux stone floors of crème fraîche hues and slump into one of three cotton covered sofas. There’s a flat screen television (UK & French satellite) with home theatre discretely tucked away in an elegant cupboard.

Dining Area

The dining area with a set of painted ‘fin 19ème siècle’ French table, six chairs and matching ‘buffet’ leads onto a fully equipped kitchen with oven, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, food processor in addition to all the essentials associated with a cook’s kitchen.

Bedrooms

There are two bedrooms with solid limed oak floors; the main bedroom with its king size bed and a ‘melange’ of painted French furniture and wooden vintage pieces. It has French doors leading onto the south-facing terrace and has direct ‘Jack & Jill’ access to the bathroom. The second bedroom has two single antique iron beds, a large built-in armoire behind a pair of reclaimed doors and a ‘windowed wall’, created using reclaimed windows (and roman blinds for privacy) which skilfully creates a private room without compromising the sense of spaciousness and fluidity of the living room.

Bathroom

The large bathroom with ‘wheel-in’ shower has been designed to welcome wheelchair users if holidaying with friends or family. There are twin washbasins, a wc and a washing machine & tumble drier. There’s also a separate wc with washbasin.

Outside there’s a flagstone terrace with table and chairs for outdoor dining, a Weber barbecue and ‘bains de soleil’. The lawned area with its copper beech tree, offers a welcome shady retreat from the sometimes searing sunshine. There’s climbing roses, potted plants and a miniature herb garden contained in an old trough.

The garden is surrounded by a low stone wall topped with vine covered traditional style fencing of the Poitou-Charentes and with its lockable gates, offers a stress free play area for little ones. There’s a gate to access the private parking area which offers ample space for one or two vehicles.

In addition to the heated 12 x 4 metre pool, there’s an inflatable paddling pool if little ones prefer a simple splash in the privacy of your own garden.

Broadband internet access via Wi-fi is available inside the cottage and there’s a CD player, board games and lots of books. French & UK satellite television and DVD are also available.

Although ‘La Laiterie’ is in some respects the most independent gîte here, it remains an attractive option - with a dash of refinement - for friends and family holidaying together at ‘Le Clos des Jardins’.
