'Thank you so much for making our holiday so memorable....you have a warmth, generosity and ease that is rare & we really felt at home from the moment we met ye....We're really going to miss wandering around your garden, feeding the hens, helping ourselves to fruit, listening to 'Bumpy' the frog....It was particularly magical for Saoirse being able to do all this, running around barefoot without a care in the world...We have wonderful memories of dining with you on Saturday night - the delicious food, drinks and laughter'.
Theresa, Urs and their two year old daughter, Saoirse. County Kerry, Ireland.

We're already counting down the days to September - when we will see you, and all the incredible people we have met through you, again. See you again very soon'.

'You have both been such fabulous hosts. You have created a very special place here which we have all enjoyed so much. Nile & Easte will have so many lasting memories from here including the baby lamb, feeding the chickens and all the playing in the grounds. Thank you for the trip to the village fête, it was such an experience to sit and eat with the locals. We would gladly come back and also recommend your gîte to freinds and family'.

'We have had a wonderful two tranquil weeks in your delightful 'ecuries' and beautiful grounds. We've really enjoyed your great company & generosity (tasty jams, fresh veg – tomatoes so juicy, Alison's fantastic food for aperitifs, 'special' brandy and of course the basil wine). It is by far the best gîte we have stayed in. Hopefully it is 'à la prochaine' rather than goodbye'.
Janet and Alan. South Yorkshire.

'Thank you so much, Alison & Francis, for welcoming us to your beautiful gite. The care and attention that you pour into everything means that we have felt extremely welcome and happy here. Alice has really enjoyed wandering around the garden and especially visiting and feeding the animals. We'll really miss the garden; picking fruit and veg for dinner, and oh the tomatoes!! To die for! We hope to come back again and we know lots of people who would love it here as much as us. We so enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen and have shared many lovely meals together...I think this will be our outstanding memory of the place – a lovely feeling of togetherness and enjoyment.....'

'Thank you so much for a truly wonderful holiday, you have both given us all a very special time. We love your home and hope you don't have to work too hard, inorder to enjoy the sanctuary you have created. Restaurant in Melle recommended by Alison & Francis for a night out without les enfants. 'This place has exceeded our expectations – all down to the years of hard work, perseverance and attention to details of Alison & Francis. We admire the way y'ou have sensitively restored the buildings to achieve authentic and comfortable accommodation perfect for our family (and an inspiration for our cottage back home!) Many thanks for your hospitality and time and in particular, the most welcome basket of produce (etc!) on arrival – a real treat. We would love to return....parents staying in 'Les Ecuries' same week which worked out really well too'.

'Completely and thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful stay with you. Such an abundance of memories we're taking home from 'Le Four du Boulanger', whether its the walnuts, the warm welcome (when we turned up hours late & without food), the hens and garden plot, the lovely gardens'
Henry and Angela. Dublin.
'A wonderful, sensitive restoration of a beautiful property – the use of natural materials and the thoughtful aesthetic consideration, such as the stencils on the bedlinen, curtains and the bedroom floors are superb! - Simply a beautiful and tranquil place to spend two weeks. We thank you for your friendly and easy-going attention, and especially for your generous invitation to avail ourselves of the produce from your vegetable garden. AND – the superb meal you prepared and served in your wonderful home. AND – the wall that we have watched Francis build with such skill and attention to authentic detail'. Lastly the area abounds with so many significant monuments and locations making it a wonderful place to spend a few weeks.'

‘Thank you very much for the warmest welcome imaginable. Our lovely meal on arrival gave us a wonderful start – cucumber mousse and basil wine a universal favourite also the freshly dug potatoes and courgettes picked, sliced, chargrilled on the BBQ and eaten within the hour - another world. Our grandchildren (who stayed next door in ‘Le Four du Boulanger’) loved the sheep and hens, the pool and boules, hide & seek...’

‘Thank you Alison & Francis for an idyllic week. Heaven does happen on earth!’
Mary, Jenny and John Sale
‘A lovely stay – almost like visiting friends! Had a fab time, the weather played along and we particularly enjoyed our bike rides around the local countryside. Best find: a little local restaurant, L’Auberge de St Jean, easily the best for quality and value that we’ve found in France. Thanks for the fresh veggies and herbs, to say nothing of the eggs which are out of this world.
Matt, Ticki, Olivia (5) and Henry (3)
‘We have spent two wonderful weeks at ‘Les Ecuries’ – a little gem of a place, absolutely perfect for a chill-out. Alison & Francis have struck the perfect balance as hosts. Our 8 year old, Holly, has had a great time ‘helping’ Francis around the garden and Alison to make her superb raspberry jam. She’s had a whale of a time…The main highlights of our stay have been relaxing in our own courtyard & enjoying the delicious produce from the garden_ we have felt very much at home here! Alison’s basil wine is to die for and is perfect on a warm Summer’s evening. We hope to back with our friends…and we look forward to our next stay’.
John, Josée & Holly (8)

All your recommendations were brilliant, Ile de ré, Ruffec restaurant….The milk was a very special experience for all, especially seeing the baby cows! We would love to come back with the rest of the family. A bientôt!’
